THE ALPHA01 GUIDE COLLAGEN & PROTEIN
Multi Collagen
ComplexCapsules or Multi Collagen
Protein Powder?
Four sources. Two formats. A clearer way to compare your collagen.
· 11 min read

Thinking of taking collagen, but stuck on whether to choose capsules or powder? The answer often comes down to more than just convenience; it’s about what else is on the nutrition panel.
Our capsules pair collagen with vitamin C and biotin. The powder provides a larger amount of collagen, without those added vitamins. Here is how the ingredients, serving sizes and pack prices compare.7
Multi collagen at a glance
- Capsules: collagen plus vitamins. Four capsules provide 2,200 mg of collagen, with vitamin C and biotin at 100% of their NRVs.
- Powder: more collagen per serving. Two scoops provide 20 g of collagen and declare 18 g of protein, with no added vitamin C or biotin.
- Four animal sources in both. Bovine, fish, eggshell membrane and chicken. Both products contain fish and egg and are not vegan.
01 / FIND YOUR FORMAT
Which multi collagen is right for you: capsules or powder?
One format is a serving of capsules with vitamins built in. The other is a plain collagen powder you mix into a drink. Neither is a like-for-like replacement for the other.

Multi collagen capsules vs multi collagen powder: all six side by side

All six sit in our Multi Collagen range, which is part of our wider collagen and protein range and our beauty range.
Multi collagen powder sizes: from a 100g taster to 1kg
The capsules suit a routine built around swallowing a measured serving with water. Both pack sizes have the same formula. With the powder, the 100 g and 200 g packs offer a smaller quantity to try, while 400 g and 1 kg cost less per 20 g serving at the prices shown.

04 / UNDERSTAND THE INGREDIENTS
What is multi collagen? Bovine, marine, eggshell and chicken collagen
Collagen is a structural protein found in animal tissue. “Multi” means that the product combines more than one source. Both Alpha01 formulas use these four:7
Bovine
Grass-fed bovine collagen
Marine
Wild-caught fish collagen
Eggshell
Eggshell membrane collagen
Avian
Chicken sternum collagen
Hydrolysed collagen, or collagen peptides?
Hydrolysed collagen has been broken down into smaller pieces called peptides. The two terms describe the same ingredient, rather than two different strengths.3
Types of collagen I, II, III, V and X: what the numbers mean
The Roman numerals identify different collagen types, not grades or strengths. Different animal tissues contain different types, which is why the formulas combine sources.24 These names do not mean that a supplement targets the matching tissue in your body.
Bovine collagen appears first on both ingredients lists. Ingredients are listed in descending order by weight, so it is the largest source in the blend.9
Marine collagen, bovine collagen and bone broth: our single-source collagen
Prefer one source to four? Our Marine Collagen 2400mg capsules keep the same four-capsule serving, with 2,200mg of wild-caught fish collagen, 120mg of hyaluronic acid and 80mg of vitamin C in a hypromellose shell.7 Marine collagen also comes as a powder and as gummies, and our marine collagen guide sets the three side by side.
For a single-source powder, our Bovine Collagen Powder, Types I and III gives 20g of collagen and 18g of protein in two scoops, and our Bone Broth Protein Powder gives 18g of protein a serving from grass-fed bovine gelatin.7
05 / UNDERSTAND THE CLAIMS
Multi collagen benefits: the claims UK rules authorise
Every authorised health claim on the Great Britain register passed a scientific review: independent scientists examined the research and the evidence behind it before it was authorised.1 The law itself says that health claims shall be “based on and substantiated by generally accepted scientific evidence”.8
The health statements below relate to the vitamin C and biotin in the capsules and the protein in the powder. They are not separate health claims for collagen or hyaluronic acid.1

PowderKEEP THE WHOLE DIET IN VIEW
Collagen with vitamin C and biotin: why a daily serving matters
Our capsule serving contains 80 mg of vitamin C and 50 µg of biotin, each 100% NRV. The NHS notes that vitamin C cannot be stored in the body, so you need it in your diet every day.5 That does not mean everyone needs a supplement. Supplements are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
06 / KEEP IT SIMPLE
How to take collagen capsules and collagen powder
Neither label specifies a morning or evening time. Start with the directions for your chosen product, and keep the daily serving in mind.
Capsules: four daily with water
Four capsules provide 2,200 mg collagen. A 180-capsule pack contains 45 daily servings; the 90-capsule pack contains 22 full servings plus two capsules.
Powder: mix once a day
The label says one or two scoops (10–20 g) in 200–300 ml of liquid, mixed thoroughly. It can be added to smoothies, blended drinks or hot drinks.
Keep the label close
Check ingredients, allergens and cautions. Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of young children. If you take medicines or are unsure whether a supplement suits you, ask a healthcare professional.
07 / A LITTLE MORE CLARITY
Multi collagen FAQs
Is multi collagen good for skin and hair?
The skin and hair statements belong to the two vitamins in our capsules. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, and biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal skin 1. The powder has no added vitamins, so for these statements choose the capsules.
Can I take collagen every day?
Both labels give directions for daily use: four capsules, or one to two scoops of powder once a day. Whether either product is suitable for you depends on your diet, allergies, medicines and circumstances. Follow the current label and ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure. A 180-capsule pack contains 45 daily servings. If you choose the capsules, your four a day give 80 mg of vitamin C and 50 µg of biotin, and the NHS says that less than 1,000 mg of vitamin C and up to 0.9 mg of biotin a day from supplements is unlikely to cause any harm.56
What time of day should I take collagen powder or capsules?
Neither label names a time. Morning coffee, a lunchtime smoothie or your evening meal all work, so pick the one you’ll remember.
Does multi collagen powder contain vitamin C?
No. The powder is four collagen sources and nothing else, which is why its claims are the protein ones. If the vitamin C and biotin statements are what you’re after, choose the capsules.
Is there a vegan collagen in this range?
Collagen only comes from animals, so all four of our sources and the capsule shell are animal-derived, and the products contain fish and egg. If you follow a vegan diet, our vegan capsule gives 80mg of vitamin C with biotin and zinc but no collagen, and vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin 1.
Are collagen peptides the same as hydrolysed collagen?
Yes. Hydrolysed collagen is collagen that enzymes have broken down into short peptides, so the two names describe the same ingredient 3. Our capsule label uses hydrolysed and our powder label uses peptides.
How many collagen capsules make one serving?
Four capsules provide 2,200 mg of collagen, or 550 mg per capsule. A 180-capsule pack gives 45 servings; a 90-capsule pack gives 22 full servings with two capsules left over.
