Alpha01 Lutein and Zeaxanthin 40mg gives you 40mg of lutein and 2.5mg of zeaxanthin in one vegan capsule, the two amounts printed on the front of the pouch. Both come from marigold flower extract standardised to 80% lutein and 5% zeaxanthin, and each capsule also holds 2mg of BioPerine® black pepper extract. The ingredients list is short: organic brown rice flour, a hypromellose capsule shell, the marigold extract and the black pepper extract.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids, the yellow and orange pigments of marigold petals, also found in foods such as corn, carrots and eggs. Standardised means every batch of extract is made to hold the same share of lutein, and at 80% that share is high enough for 40mg to fit into one small capsule. No reference value exists for either pigment, so the panel shows no %NRV. Our guide, Lutein 40mg with Zeaxanthin: From Marigold Flower to Capsule, explains the 80% figure, the black pepper line on the panel and how this capsule compares with our organic lutein.
Take one capsule a day with water. The pouch holds 90 capsules, 90 servings for £8.99, about 10p a day, and once the routine suits you the 180-capsule pouch brings the cost down to about 8p a day. The shell is plant-derived hypromellose, so the capsules belong to our vegan range.
