Alpha01 Organic Black Seed Oil in the 500ml bottle is organic Nigella sativa seed oil and nothing else: the ingredients list reads organic black cumin seed oil (100%). The front of the bottle prints extra virgin, cold-pressed and unrefined, with the EU organic leaf. A serving is one teaspoon (5ml), and each teaspoon gives 45kcal and 5.0g of fat, of which 0.8g is saturated, 1.2g mono-unsaturated and 2.9g polyunsaturated.
Of every 100g of fat on the panel, 24g is mono-unsaturated and 59g polyunsaturated, so 83% of the fat is unsaturated and the oil is high in unsaturated fat. That gives the bottle an authorised claim: replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats in the diet contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels; MUFA and PUFA are unsaturated fats. In the kitchen, that means a teaspoon of this oil where you would have used butter, in place of it rather than on top. Our guide, Nigella Seed Oil (Black Seed Oil): Capsules or Liquid?, sets the bottle beside our capsules and shows what each label declares.
Take one teaspoon directly, or add it to water, food, cold or hot drinks, smoothies, soups or salads; the label says it can go into cooking and baking too. The 500ml bottle holds 100 teaspoons for £21.99, about 22p a serving or £4.40 per 100ml, the lowest price per millilitre in our black seed range, and the 250ml bottle holds 50. The bottle panel gives no thymoquinone figure, so if that number matters to you, our Organic Black Seed Oil 1440mg LiCaps declare 28mg in every two-capsule serving.
